Overview

"Carefully researched and lovingly recreated, Ed Kluz’s Lost Houses conjure up the vanished buildings in all their pomp, perched on stark, treeless, plains under threatening skies, as if briefly illuminated in the glare of lightening or the beam of an arc light. There is something temporary and scenographic about them, captured on the verge of dissolution…"

Tim Knox, Director, The Royal Collection

Ed Kluz's work focusses on perceptions of the past through the reimagining of historic landscapes, buildings and objects. These concerns are explored through the media of painting, drawing, printmaking and site-specific installation.

The visual language of his work is underpinned by neo-antiquarianism and a curiosity for the obscure. He draws inspiration from 17th, 18th and 19th century topographical and architectural representation, early photography, film and theatre.

Between 1999-2002 he studied fine art at the Winchester School of Art. His work is held in a number of public collections including the V&A and York City Art Gallery.
