Fred Yates – The Lost Paintings

4 March - 5 April 2003

LOST PAINTINGS. In 1985 Fred Yates sent 28 paintings to an American collector in Philadelphia. The paintings were to be stored with him for a possible exhibition at a later date. However, soon afterwards Yates moved to France and the two lost touch. Last year they finally located one another and all the paintings were returned to England where they form the basis of this exhibition. Their return has provided a unique opportunity to assemble a collection of paintings by the artist from the 1970's and the early 1980's. The exhibition comprises the missing American paintings as well as a small group of early work from the artist's own collection. None of the paintings have been exhibited before.
