Artist Statement:

Charles Williams' current work draws its influences from Goya's Black paintings, Hopper, The X-files, Anthony Powell's Dance To The Music Of Time, Paul McCarthy and the band Tindersticks. It is a night-time world he depicts, with hints of odd compulsions played out in the dark in public parks. There is an exciting sense of a doleful narrative, one that we must decide on for ourselves, because the clues are hard to find and the titles give little away. These are paintings of times and places, emotions and activities that we'd rather not admit exist.
