Peter is a natural painter. It is at once obvious that he is on the most cordial terms with his brushes and his palette. Nobody stands between him and nature. His response is immediate and committed. This is not to say that he has never looked at the work of another artist. Edward Seago was an early inspiration and one which can never be forgotten. Like Seago he assuredly takes his place among the great men of Norfolk and Suffolk, those who comprise the finest provincial school this country has ever produced.
Suffolk has always been his home and though he is captivated by water, sand and sunlight wherever he finds them, it is to east Anglia he forever returns. Its great open skies and shimmering light never cease to haunt him.
