Nationality: British

Sheila Fell was born in Aspatria, Cumberland, her father was a miner. She studied at Carlisle School of Art (1947-1949) where she was incouraged to take up textile design. She then went on to study at St. Martin's School of Art (1949-1951) where she studied under Roland Vivian Pitchforth and John Napper. She never returned to live in Cumbria but its landscape dominated her work for the rest of her life, often returning to Aspatria with the painter, L.S Lowry for painting expeditions.
Fell had a daughter but the Greek sculptor Takis Vassilakis in 1957.

She had her first solo show at the Beax Arts Gallery in 1955, one of a series in the 1950's and 1960's.
