Son of the painter Spencer Gore, he studied at Trinity College and the Ruskin School of Drawing, Oxford (1932-4). After the Ruskin he studied at Westminster School of Art and the Slade (1934-7). His first one-man show was held in 1937 at the Redfern Gallery and there again after the War. He taught at Epsom College of Art and Chelsea School of Art and was head of painting at St Martin's School of Art (1951-79). He was elected a Royal Academician in 1973 and was head of their exhibition committee until 1987. Retrospectives of his work have been held at Gainsborough House (1979) , Bury St Edmunds Art Gallery and the Royal Academy (1989). Work in public collections include Reading, Plymouth and Southampton Art Gallery. Lives and works in London and Provence and continues to paint in New York.
