Caroline Hunter was born in Edinburgh in 1964, her father a chandler, her mother a classics teacher. In 1968 the family moved to Orkney where Caroline remained until 1982 when she left to study History of Art at Aberdeen University. After graduating, she worked as an archaeological field worker until a period of unemployment and her return to Orkney led her to take up painting for the first time. With no formal training, a wonderful freshness of approach and a distinct and wholly original sense of colour, she held her first solo show in Stromness in 1994 and has been painting full time ever since. She has exhibited regularly with the Royal Scottish Academy, the Royal Glasgow Institute and has had several solo shows in Scotland. She lives and works in Argyll.
