Eugenie Vronskaya b. 1966

Overview

“I met Eugenie Vronskaya a couple of years ago, when she arrived at Pine Plane, New York State from Russia. She had come to participate in the workshop for painters and sculptors; undoubtedly she had overcome all sorts of difficulties to get there. I was struck at that time by her strength of purpose. Since then I have followed her work and seen it change and grow. The drawing within the painting has been allowed a greater rein. England seems to suit Eugenie and I believe she will fulfil her promise. She is an artist; she has the touch, the determination and the temperament”

Sir Anthony Caro

Eugenie Vronskaya was born in Moscow in 1966 and is currently living and working in the Highlands of Scotland & London.

From an early age Vronskaya studied icon painting. She studied at the Krasnopresnenskaya School of Art and the Fine Art University in Moscow before moving to the UK in 1989. In 1991 she became the first Russian M.A. student at the Royal College of Art. Vronskaya was invited by Sir Anthony Caro to participate in the International Triangle Workshop in New York state and she subsequently was involved in running a number of Triangle International workshops in Africa (Zimbabwe, South Africa and Botswana).

Vronskaya was a winner of the Visa International Bursary which enabled her to complete her M.A. at the RCA. She has worked and exhibited in London, Paris, Denmark, America, Russia and USA and taught at Ruskin School of Art, Winchester School of Art and Chelsea and Westminster School Of Art, where she was Artist in Residence in 1994-95. The following year Vronskaya was awarded Artist in Residency at Delfina Artist Studios, both in London and in Spain.

Her work can be found in many private collections across the world as well as at Tate Britain, V&A Museum, Pushkin and Tret’yakov Gallery in Moscow.
