'Joanna Logue is known for her veiled landscapes; softly blurred visions as if from a memory or dream. But her new body of work has a sharpness and clarity of mark – a confidence in the act of describing the complex landscape surrounding her on an island off the coast of Maine. Coming to terms with the intensity of autumnal colours, woven tangles of vegetation and the dappled reflections from glacial ponds was a significant challenge – as was finding relevance and solace in landscape painting, despite the US COVID crisis and divisive political tensions.
