Focusing intensely on one species or ecosystem at a time, Adlington immerses himself in the animal’s world, drawing, observing and filming until the movement, posture and behavior are completely familiar and he begins to think like his subjects. Back in the studio he works with paint, pigment, charcoal or whatever comes to hand. Making art is really another way of understanding both spirit and form in even greater depth but the resulting work hums with the living essence of the animals we share the world with.
Travel has been a core part Adlington’s practice and has taken him all over the world, but the pandemic opened his eyes to the natural wonders closer to home - his latest exhibiton Night Dances followed his London nocturnal ramblings.
Adlington studied history of Art at Edinburgh University, worked briefly at Sotheby’s before taking a degree in Fine Art at the City and Guilds, London. His work is keenly collected both in the UK and internationally. -
