Rousham, Through The Gardens: Francis Hamel

Designed and landscaped by William Kent in the 1730s, Rousham remains Kent’s most complete and unspoilt creation and one of the most influential gardens in the country.  Rousham has also provided a home and studio for the artist, Francis Hamel, for the last 25 years, and while his surroundings have always played a significant role in his work, it was the imposition of Lockdown in March 2020 which presented Hamel with a unique opportunity to begin a series of paintings capturing the garden through its changing seasons. The result is a very personal interpretation of one of England’s most significant and magical places.
